For office and accounting work, a mid-range processor with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD is usually enough. Design and video work needs 32GB or more and a dedicated graphics card. Servers and NAS units should have drive redundancy (RAID) and a UPS. Brand-name PCs suit companies that want identical models and manufacturer warranty; custom builds give more performance for the money and are easier to upgrade.
